Dominiqua Griffin, PhD, LGPC

Dr. Dominiqua Griffin is passionate about helping children, adolescents, and adults live healthier and more fulfilling lives. She has a BA from the University at Buffalo, a Master's in Counseling and Guidance from Howard University, and a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision with a Dual-Title in Comparative and International Education from Pennsylvania State University.

In the counseling room, Dominiqua blends an interpersonal process framework with a multicultural and strengths-based approach. Depending on the client’s needs, she draws from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), person-centered practices, and feminist theory. When working with children and adolescents, she also incorporates play therapy to meet clients where they are and build toward the goals they set for themselves. As a native New Yorker with family roots in Pensacola, FL, and Barbados, her life experiences bring real meaning to the phrase “it takes a village to raise a child.” Her family and community have profoundly shaped her, and these influences are reflected in her work. This perspective fuels her work in counseling, honoring the importance of community and advocacy.

Her professional identity is made up of three pillars: scholar, activist, and servant leader. Outside of session, Dominiqua is deeply engaged in shaping policy and creating supportive communities. She is the visionary behind Black Women PhDs®, and she has held roles in the federal government, higher education, and K-12 schools. Her work has taken her to DC, Barbados, and London, and she has shared her expertise through invited talks, publications, and panels, including with organizations like Facebook (now Meta) and the Barbados Ministry of Education.

Even with the many hats she wears, what matters most to Dominiqua is being present in the counseling room and connecting with clients.
